COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a very essential course for all persons involved in the protection of buildings, facilities, communities, people, etc. It deals heavily with the development and implementation of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) solutions – both fundamental and cutting-edge solutions.
Urban planners, community developers, law enforcement, security companies, community groups, policy makers - all who are directly and indirectly involved in the protection of communities, organizations and people, this is a must-do course! This course is fundamental for all designers of security and public safety solutions. Prison and fire officers are also key to the protection of communities and citizens and thus training in CPTED strategies is critical.
Overall, CPTED is a strategy whereby long-term solutions to security and crime problems are devised from as early as the design stage. However, it also presents solutions for places that have already been developed. It takes into consideration how the environment can be used strategically to enhance security and crime prevention initiatives. In the end, devising and implementing CPTED strategies results in huge cost savings to organizations, communities and people.
Some of the main issues to be covered include: territoriality, surveillance, access controls, target hardening, image/maintenance, and activity support.
